In her role, Wulan will work to understand the key threats to apes and their habitats, and the potential impacts of Arcus’ investment to mitigate these threats. These findings will help support policy development; coalition and movement building; education activities; and other strategies to improve the conservation of apes and benefit the well-being of captive apes in range and non-range states. Originally from Indonesia, Wulan has worked for 12 years in multiple conservation roles, including with the Wildlife Conservation Society and Rhinoceros Conservation in Indonesia. A large part of her work has focused on science-based interventions and monitoring of charismatic large mammal species. Her recently completed Doctor of Philosophy degree explored ecological and socioeconomic factors of wild meat consumption and how these factors shaped biodiversity conservation in Sulawesi, Indonesia. In addition, she used a “systems thinking” approach to propose conservation strategies.
